Author and Grammy winning gospel record producer—Mahalia Jackson, Marion Williams and Claude Jeter-- Anthony Heilbut stops by Sinner’s Crossroads on Thursday June 5 and Thursday June 12 to talk about his seven decade presence and participation in the gospel community. Anthony’s stories are insightful and amazing. His books, the now classic The Gospel Sound and The Fan Who Knew Too Much: Aretha Franklin, the Rise of the Soap Opera, Children of the Gospel Church, and Other Meditations are essential reads. Gospel music chosen by Anthony will be played. Brothers and Sisters and Beloved, these shows are not to be missed.

Jivin' Gene's last live performance in New York City was on The Alan Freed Show! This Texas swamp pop legend returns next weekend for shows at Bowery Electric on Saturday June 28th and Lincoln Center on Sunday June 29th. These concerts will be held in conjunction with the fiftieth anniversary of Antone's, the great Austin venue known for its support of blues and roots music. James Mastro co-founded The Bongos in 1980, fresh off his time in Richard Lloyd's post-Television band. In the ‘90s Mastro fronted The Health and Happiness Show, and more recently he’s been a steady member of Ian Hunter’s touring band among many other pursuits. Last year he released his first-ever solo LP, Dawn Of A New Error, and he put together an all-star band to play these songs live that includes WFMU’s own Dennis Diken!

The Bug Club make their third appearance on The Todd-O-Phonic Todd Show. They'll be featuring songs from their new Sub Pop album, "Very Human Features". This British three piece will also be bringing their fresh sounds to The Bowery Ballroom on June 26th.
Atlantic Thrills celebrate the release of their third album, strangely enough titled "III" (Almost Ready Records) by performing on WFMU. This album is bursting with hits! The Providence combo is also hitting clubs, with gigs at Alphaville in Brooklyn on June 27th and The Meatlocker in Montclair on June 28th. Both these shows are with Cheater Slicks.
